UPDATE: Robert Duncan has been officially appointed to the Glen Ellyn Village Board of Trustees during a special meeting held on Monday. This urgent appointment fills the vacancy left by the recent passing of Trustee Steve Szymanski, ensuring that the board remains fully operational.
Duncan will serve the remainder of the term, which extends through May 2027. The seat is set to be contested again in the upcoming election scheduled for April 2027, where a two-year term will be available. The village received 11 applications from residents eager to fill this critical role, with village officials conducting thorough interviews of candidates.
Village President Jim Burket recommended Duncan for the position after a comprehensive review process. “Bob brings both professional expertise and a lifelong connection to Glen Ellyn,” Burket stated in an official news release. His selection is seen as a pivotal move for the community, reflecting the need for experienced leadership during this transition.
Duncan, a longtime resident of Glen Ellyn, has made significant contributions to the community, serving on the Glen Ellyn Civic Betterment Party Nominating Committee and the Board of Directors of the Glen House Food Pantry. His career as a trial attorney has earned him recognition from various Illinois legal publications, underscoring his professional qualifications.
“I am honored by this opportunity to serve the community I’ve called home nearly my entire life,” Duncan commented in the release. “Glen Ellyn is a special place to raise a family, and I look forward to working with Village President Burket and my fellow trustees to ensure its continued success.”
As the founder and principal of Duncan Law Group in Chicago, Duncan holds leadership positions within state and national legal organizations and serves as president on the Dean’s Advisory Board of the University of Illinois College of Law. His appointment is expected to enhance the board’s effectiveness and community engagement as it navigates the challenges ahead.
Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to stay informed about Duncan’s initiatives and the upcoming election, which will further shape the future of Glen Ellyn. This appointment marks a vital step in maintaining continuity and progress in local governance.
