Sarah Nurse Returns, Scores in Goldeneyes’ Overtime Loss
BREAKING: In a thrilling return to the ice, Sarah Nurse made an immediate impact after an eight-week injury absence, scoring in her second game of the season. The Vancouver Goldeneyes faced off against Nurse’s former team, the Toronto Sceptres, but ultimately lost 2-1 in overtime at Scotiabank Arena on January 17, 2026.
Nurse, who missed significant time due to an arm injury, quickly showcased her skills. Just 29 seconds after Savannah Harmon broke the scoreless tie for Toronto in the second period, Nurse tied the game, giving Vancouver a fighting chance. “I wanted to make an impact on the ice,” she stated, reflecting on the electric atmosphere and the significance of her return.
This match marked the first meeting of the season between Vancouver and Toronto, intensifying the stakes for Nurse, who was a fan favorite during her two-year stint with the Sceptres. “It’s a little dramatic to come back after two months in Toronto at Scotiabank,” Nurse added, highlighting the emotional weight of her performance.
The Goldeneyes have struggled this season, currently sitting at seventh in the eight-team standings, just one point ahead of the Seattle Torrent. Coach Brian Idalski praised Nurse’s return, noting her presence provided a significant lift to the team. “Having Sarah back had a real impact just on the bench and in the locker room,” he commented.
Adding to the excitement, Nurse was named to the Canadian Olympic team just days before the game, despite having only played one match this season. “I knew they were going to be watching me like a hawk,” she said, emphasizing her determination to prove her worth on the ice.
Fans showed overwhelming support, with numerous signs and jerseys celebrating her return. “It was so cool to see the Nurse signs out there,” she remarked, reinforcing the strong bond between her and the Toronto crowd.
As the Goldeneyes look to recover from their poor start, all eyes will be on Nurse as she aims to lead her team back to a winning record. The next game is crucial for Vancouver, who must harness the momentum from Nurse’s performance to climb the standings.
