URGENT UPDATE: The Saskatchewan Rivers School Division reports significant advancements in recruitment efforts, highlighting a successful year in human resources during their board meeting on September 8. These developments are crucial as the division strives to enhance educational quality and student success.

The division’s board, led by chair Cher Bloom, received an extensive accountability report from Superintendents Corey Trann and Jeff Court, showcasing the recruitment of 36 interns this year alone. Director of Education Neil Finch expressed pride in the professionalism of the staff, stating, “The adults in the system are there to make sure students have success.”

This year, the division made strides in filling challenging positions, particularly in French Immersion and Cree Language teaching roles. The increase in superintendents overseeing human resources reflects a proactive approach, with Trann managing teachers and Court responsible for the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) staff.

With over 548 full-time equivalent teachers, the division includes 32 principals and 22 vice principals, maintaining a modest turnover rate of 6.4%. The total budget for teachers and administration stands at $52.2 million, with a staggering 84% allocated to teacher salaries.

The division’s recruitment strategy is ongoing, particularly active during recruitment fairs at the University of Regina and University of Saskatchewan in January and February. The substitute pool currently comprises around 200 individuals, with a notable portion being retired teachers, essential to meeting staffing needs.

Additionally, the division supports new educators through its First and Second Year Program, emphasizing mentorship and continuous development. The report also noted that 190 educators identify as First Nations-Métis-Indigenous, showcasing the division’s commitment to diversity in education.

In light of these developments, the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division aims to maintain its current trajectory to ensure staff effectiveness in fostering student achievement. As recruitment efforts continue, the division remains dedicated to upholding a high standard of educational excellence.
