Saskatchewan Roughriders Face Edmonton Elks in Crucial Matchup
UPDATE: The Saskatchewan Roughriders are set to clash with the Edmonton Elks this Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 5 p.m. in an urgent Week 17 matchup crucial for playoff positioning. Currently holding a record of 10-3, the Roughriders aim to secure a home playoff game, while the Elks, at 5-9, look to turn their season around after a narrow loss last week.
In their previous encounter in Week 8, the Roughriders edged out the Elks with a 21-18 victory at Mosaic Stadium. After enjoying a bye week, Saskatchewan is eager to bounce back from a disappointing performance against the Montreal Alouettes, where they fell 48-31. Quarterback Trevor Harris emphasized the importance of this stretch: “This is where we need to start playing our best football,” he stated.
The injury report is promising for the Roughriders, as receiver Samuel Emilus is set to return after missing time with a knee injury. Defensive cornerback Marcus Sayles will also be back on the field, while defensive end Shane Ray and offensive lineman Zack Fry are sidelined.
With only five games remaining in the regular season, Roughriders head coach Corey Mace stressed the need to build momentum: “We want to be hitting on all cylinders in the final stretch.” Saskatchewan will face the Ottawa Redblacks next week, followed by critical matchups against the Toronto Argonauts, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and B.C. Lions.
In addition to playoff implications, individual milestones are within reach. Receiver KeeSean Johnson is just 31 yards shy of 1,000 receiving yards this season, while running back A.J. Ouellette needs 58 rushing yards to reach the same benchmark. Both players are key to Saskatchewan’s offensive strategy as they aim to capitalize on every opportunity.
As the Roughriders prepare for this pivotal game, the atmosphere is charged with anticipation. The outcome may not only affect playoff standings but also serve as a turning point for a team eager to regain its stride. Catch the action live on TSN and witness what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
