Saskatoon Blades Edge Raiders 3-2 in Thrilling Overtime Finish
URGENT UPDATE: In a nail-biting finish, the Saskatoon Blades overcame a late deficit to defeat the Prince Albert Raiders 3-2 in overtime during their final preseason matchup on September 30, 2023, in Warman. The Raiders held the lead for most of the game, but the Blades rallied to tie it just seconds before the final buzzer, showcasing a dramatic display of skill and determination.
The Raiders struck first at the 1:48 mark of the opening period when Ethan Bibeau set up Jonah Sivertson for a quick goal, giving them a 1-0 lead early on. Both teams battled intensely, trading chances and powerplays, but the Raiders managed to maintain their lead through the first frame, ending it at 1-0 despite the Blades outshooting them 12-9.
In the second period, the Blades leveled the score at 5:08. After a broken stick left Raiders defenseman Matyas Man stranded, the Blades seized the opportunity. Dominik Petr set up Rowan Calvert for a swift goal, tying the game at 1-1. The Raiders regained the lead late in the period with a powerful shot from Hubert Clarke at 19:13, making it 2-1 as the second period concluded.
With Steele Bass in net for the Raiders during the latter half, the team defended well until the final minutes of the game. However, penalties from Bennett Kelly and Owen Corkish put the Raiders at a disadvantage. In a desperate push, the Blades capitalized with a 6-on-3 powerplay, tying the game with just 17 seconds left on the clock, thanks to another goal from Dominik Petr.
As the game went into overtime tied at 2-2, the Blades maintained a powerplay advantage and struck quickly. Just one minute into the extra period, Tyler Parr buried a rebound off a shot attempt by Petr, clinching the victory for the Blades with a final score of 3-2.
The game wrapped up the preseason series between the Raiders and Blades, with the Raiders now preparing for their upcoming games against the Regina Pats, starting Thursday in Yorkton, and another preseason matchup on Saturday back at the Art Hauser Centre.
This thrilling overtime finish demonstrates the competitiveness of both teams as they head into the regular season. Fans are eager to see how these teams will perform as they strive for victory in the upcoming matches. Stay tuned for more updates on their progress!
