Sean Whalen Reveals Thrills of New Horror Film ‘Traumatika’
UPDATE: Veteran actor Sean Whalen has just shared exciting insights into his role in the highly anticipated horror film ‘Traumatika’, set to hit theaters on September 12, 2025, through Saban Films. With spine-chilling themes of demonic possession and night terrors, this film promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
In a recent interview, Whalen revealed that the experience of working on ‘Traumatika’ was both “easy and fun.” Directed by Pierre Tsigaridis and co-written with Maxime Rançon, the film’s gripping narrative centers on a young boy whose nightmares manifest into terrifying reality as his mother succumbs to dark forces. Whalen, cast as a character named Steve, noted, “I usually get to play the person that is threatening people, not the person saying ‘hey, listen to me, I am going to make sure you guys are okay.’”
Whalen’s reflections on his character reveal a unique opportunity to portray a voice of reason, a stark contrast to his typical roles in horror films. “It was nice to be alone because I am alone in my convictions,” he explained, emphasizing the isolation of his character amidst chaos.
The actor also expressed his passion for the horror genre, stating, “If they are done well, they are smart commentaries on society, social issues, trends.” He believes that horror films serve as essential cultural touchstones, offering audiences a thrilling escape while addressing real-world issues. “As bad as the real world is, it’s not as bad as what you are seeing on-screen,” he remarked, highlighting the genre’s cathartic power.
Reflecting on his iconic role in ‘Twister’, Whalen shared, “It was amazing! I got it because of the Milk commercial that I did while everyone else that was there got it for their really amazing performances on prior projects.” His journey through the entertainment industry underscores the evolution of acting in the digital age.
Whalen’s engagement with audiences has expanded through social media platforms, including TikTok, where he enjoys storytelling and connecting with fans. “I love meeting people and telling stories; I’ve been told I’m pretty good at it,” he said. This digital interaction has allowed him to maintain a vibrant connection with his audience, particularly during the pandemic.
For aspiring actors, Whalen has a clear message: “Make your own content. Do not wait anymore. Nobody is looking for you.” He stresses the importance of creating opportunities in an industry where traditional paths have become less reliable. “You have to be a hyphenate. You have to be a producer-actor, writer-actor, or director-actor, or all of the above,” he advised, highlighting the need for versatility and proactive creativity.
When asked about his definition of success, he noted that it is rooted in the relationships that foster artistic expression. “Success, to me, are the relationships in my life that allow me to create and express myself artistically,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of community and support.
As excitement builds for the release of ‘Traumatika’, Whalen concluded, “This is a terrifying movie, it’s really scary, and it’s told in a very interesting visual style that will excite you.” Fans can expect a gripping cinematic experience that blends horror with profound themes, making it a must-see in the upcoming months.
Stay tuned for more updates as the release date approaches, and prepare for a film that promises to redefine the boundaries of horror storytelling.
