Second Arrest Made in Homicide of Student Harsimrat Randhawa
UPDATE: Hamilton police have announced a significant development in the tragic homicide of Harsimrat Randhawa, a 21-year-old international student from Mohawk College who was fatally shot in broad daylight earlier this year. Authorities confirmed that Obiesea Okafor, 26, was arrested in North York on August 7 and charged with three counts of attempted murder.
Randhawa was killed on April 17 at approximately 7:30 p.m. while waiting near a bus stop. The shooting involved two vehicles: a black Mercedes SUV and a white Hyundai Elantra. According to investigators, the passenger in the SUV opened fire at the occupants of the sedan, striking Randhawa as an innocent bystander.
In a previous arrest, Jerdaine Foster, 32, was charged with first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder. He is believed to have been in the black Mercedes at the time of the shooting. Both suspects are now facing serious charges as the investigation unfolds.
Authorities report that up to seven individuals may have been involved in the incident. Hamilton police have recovered both vehicles used in the shooting and are actively pursuing all leads. They have not ruled out the possibility of further arrests as the investigation progresses.
Friends and family remember Randhawa as a bright and compassionate individual whose life was tragically cut short. The community is rallying together, demanding justice for the young student whose life was lost in a senseless act of violence.
Police continue to urge anyone with information on the case to come forward. As the investigation remains active, the Hamilton community watches closely for updates on this heartbreaking case.
Stay tuned for more updates as authorities continue their work to bring all responsible parties to justice.
