Senators Acquire Warren Foegele in Urgent Trade with Kings
BREAKING: The Ottawa Senators have made a significant move, acquiring forward Warren Foegele from the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday evening. This trade comes just ahead of the NHL trade deadline, set for Friday at 3 p.m., and could impact the Senators’ playoff push.
In the deal, Ottawa sends a second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft to Los Angeles, along with a swap of third-round picks. Foegele, who has recorded seven goals and two assists in 47 games this season, brings playoff experience with 27 points amassed over 86 playoff games. He previously scored 20 goals in the 2023-24 season and 24 goals in 2024-25.
The 29-year-old from Markham, Ontario, was drafted 67th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2014 and has played for the Edmonton Oilers before joining the Kings. Foegele has one year left on his contract with a cap hit of $3.5 million and will enter unrestricted free agency after the 2026-27 season.
In a related move, the Senators also announced the acquisition of a conditional draft pick from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for veteran winger David Perron. If Perron plays before the end of the regular season or during the playoffs, Detroit will send Ottawa the Columbus Blue Jackets’ fourth-round pick. Should the Red Wings advance to the second round and Perron appears in at least 50% of the first-round games, they will instead surrender their own third-round pick.
Perron, aged 37, has contributed 19 goals and 22 assists in 92 regular season games for Ottawa over the past two seasons and was active in all six games of the Senators’ playoff run against the Toronto Maple Leafs last year.
This trade activity comes on the heels of Ottawa’s recent 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames, bringing them within four points of the Boston Bruins for the second wild-card spot in the NHL’s Eastern Conference.
Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as the trade deadline approaches, with the potential for further moves that could shape the playoff landscape. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
