Severe Thunderstorms Threaten Calgary Wednesday Morning
URGENT UPDATE: Severe thunderstorms are possible in Calgary today as two low-pressure systems converge over the region. The storms, fueled by systems from northern British Columbia and northern Montana, are expected to initiate throughout the morning and pose significant weather hazards.
As early as 10:00 AM local time, storm cells will begin developing off the Foothills, moving north and east by early afternoon. While the storms may be scattered and brief, they carry the potential for strong winds, heavy rainfall, and small to medium-sized hail.
Authorities warn that the greatest storm threats will impact Calgary and its surrounding areas. Severe thunderstorms may form particularly in east-central Alberta, where warm, moist air is currently moving into the southeast corner of the province. Residents are urged to stay alert and prepare for rapidly changing conditions.
“The convergence of these low-pressure systems could lead to intense localized weather events,” said a meteorologist from Environment Canada. “Residents should remain vigilant and heed any weather warnings issued.”
Looking ahead, starting Thursday, Calgary is forecasted to see more sunshine with daytime highs reaching around 20 C. By the weekend, a more stable weather pattern is expected, allowing temperatures to rise as we close out August.
This situation is developing, and residents are encouraged to stay updated through local news and weather services. The potential for severe weather makes this a critical time for safety precautions.
