Sherry Walsh Judging 2,400 Dancers at IDO World Championships in Italy
UPDATE: Sherry Walsh, a renowned judge representing Canada, is currently immersed in the excitement of the IDO World Championships in Italy, where 2,400 dancers from 36 countries are competing. This prestigious event is taking place this week, showcasing extraordinary talent from around the globe.
Walsh, a former dance studio owner from Sault Ste. Marie, has dedicated her expertise to the international dance community since 2016. Her rigorous schedule includes judging nine competitions across countries such as Poland, Germany, and Prague. “When something is good, the time flies,” Walsh shared, highlighting the thrilling atmosphere surrounding the competition.
As one of just nine judges at this year’s event, Walsh will evaluate dancers across various genres—from solos and duos to large group formations. Competitors range in age from seven to 50, adding to the event’s diverse and vibrant energy. However, under strict regulations, Walsh and her fellow judges are prohibited from communicating with dancers, coaches, or trainers about dance performances, maintaining the integrity of the judging process.
Walsh emphasized the profound camaraderie among dancers, regardless of language barriers. “Everybody understands a smile,” she noted, reflecting on the universal appreciation for the art of dance. “We’re all there to appreciate the excellence of each other,” she added, underscoring the heartwarming spirit of the event.
Previously, Walsh taught part-time at Studio Dance Arts until the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, she balances her judging responsibilities with her role as a physician assistant to Dr. Christine Macie.
As the competition unfolds, the world watches to see who will shine on this international stage. Walsh’s insights and experiences enrich the judging process, making this year’s IDO World Championships not just a competition, but a celebration of global unity through dance.
Stay tuned for more updates as the event progresses. Walsh’s passion and commitment to the dance community continue to inspire many, proving that the power of dance transcends boundaries and languages.
