UPDATE: Sisters Sonja Riddle and Terra Maibach, co-owners of the award-winning cannabis brand Violet Wild, are set to appear in the upcoming docuseries Legacy Makers, highlighting their inspiring entrepreneurial journey. This exciting news follows an impressive recognition as one of the Top 30 Women Entrepreneurs to Look Out For in 2025 by the NYC Journal.

The feature is poised to bring Chemainus, BC into the international spotlight, as the sisters continue to garner accolades for their unique cannabis shop. Recently, Violet Wild secured a Platinum Award at the 2024 Hermes Creative Awards for exceptional branding, along with a Gold Award for logo and print design, created with the help of the Vancouver Island design studio, Array. The shop was also celebrated in High Canada Magazine‘s Best of the Best issue for its meticulously curated menu and welcoming atmosphere.

“It means everything to me, honestly,” Maibach expressed regarding their recent awards. “It feels good to be acknowledged for what we have here.”

The sisters recently filmed their episode of Legacy Makers in Miami Beach, FL, reflecting on their family’s rich entrepreneurial history. As third-generation women entrepreneurs, they delved into their past, sharing stories of resilience and overcoming challenges faced by their family, including their father’s struggles with addiction.

“I got into mental health because of his struggles,” Riddle revealed. She has dedicated over a decade to mental health advocacy and operates the nonprofit Legacy West Healing, supporting families impacted by addiction. Riddle emphasized that her work in mental health complements her cannabis retail mission, stating, “This is my authentic self, and I can hold two very complicated sets of values.”

Maibach, who previously excelled in real estate, highlighted her transition to a purpose-driven career. After selling her real estate firm in 2018, she embraced the cannabis industry, attending international events such as Spannabis in Spain and the International Cannabis Business Conference in Berlin. Her approach emphasizes building community connections alongside product curation.

The awards and media attention mark significant momentum for Violet Wild, but Maibach insists that the most meaningful recognition comes from their customers. “What we do at Violet Wild is different,” Riddle stated. “There are a lot of people who sell weed. There are a lot of people who have stores that don’t make you feel the way we make someone feel.”

As Violet Wild continues to flourish, the sisters are eager to share their journey with the world through Legacy Makers, showcasing how their personal and professional experiences have shaped their successful cannabis brand. This docuseries promises to inspire aspiring entrepreneurs and highlight the importance of compassionate community engagement in the cannabis industry.

Stay tuned for the release date of Legacy Makers, as the spotlight on Violet Wild is set to shine even brighter in the coming weeks. This is a story of resilience, community, and the transformative power of following one’s passion.
