URGENT UPDATE: A significant winter weather event is forecasted for this weekend across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), according to Environment Canada. Residents should prepare for a mix of snow and rain as temperatures plunge, with potential snowfall accumulating up to 15 centimetres in some areas.

The latest predictions indicate that Saturday evening, November 4, 2023, will see a 30 percent chance of snow or rain, with temperatures dipping to a chilling -1°C in Toronto. Meteorologist Trudy Kidd warns that while snow is likely, any slight rise in temperature could turn it into rain, making conditions messy.

“We’re expecting a wet weekend,” Kidd stated. “Whether it’s rain or snow, do expect challenging conditions.” Areas closer to Lake Ontario could receive around 2 centimetres of snow, while regions further north, like Aurora and Newmarket, might see accumulations of 10 to 15 centimetres.

On Sunday, November 5, the forecast predicts continued precipitation, with another potential 30 percent chance of flurries or showers and a low of -5°C overnight. Residents are strongly advised to stay informed through local weather alerts, as conditions can shift rapidly.

Kidd emphasizes that this weekend’s forecast contrasts sharply with the average temperatures for this time of year, which typically hover around 9°C during the day and above freezing at night. “We’ll be well below those averages, with overnight lows dropping significantly,” she added.

Travelers are urged to check road conditions and weather forecasts before heading out, especially for longer distances. Kidd cautioned, “Different locations might experience vastly different weather, so plan accordingly.”

As the GTA braces for its first substantial snow of the season, residents should ensure they are prepared for slippery roads and challenging travel conditions. Stay tuned for updates as the situation develops and adjust your plans accordingly.
