Sold-Out Fundraiser at Mont. St. Joseph Home Raises $2,500

UPDATE: A thrilling fundraiser just concluded at Mont. St. Joseph Home, where 3,000 golf balls were dropped from a firetruck ladder standing 100 feet high. This annual event, held on September 14, 2025, coincided with the celebration of Grandparent’s Day, drawing a massive crowd eager to support a worthy cause.

The excitement peaked as the first three balls that landed nearest to the hole became cash prize winners. Susan Temarche secured the grand prize of $2,500, while Scott Gardiner and Cheryl Smith won $1,500 and $500, respectively. The event was not only a spectacle but also a significant success for the Mont. St. Joseph Home Foundation, which aims to enhance the living conditions for its residents.

In a generous display of support, Pattison Media presented a $5,000 cheque as the platinum sponsor. Jessica Gale, Director of MSJ Foundation Development, emphasized that the proceeds will be directed towards vital renovations in the home’s kitchen. “We are working on redeveloping and redesigning the way our dining room looks and the way we offer meal services in our home for our residents,” Gale stated.

The renovations will address twelve different areas needing improvement, with this fundraiser being just one of many efforts to achieve that goal. Wayne Nogier, CEO of Mont. St. Joseph Home, highlighted the importance of creating a home-like environment for the 120 residents living there. “We work hard at ‘de-institutionalizing’ the facility,” he noted.

The event included more than just the ball drop and a Grandparent’s Day walk around Prime Minister’s Park; it also featured a BBQ for residents and their families, enhancing community ties and fostering a spirit of togetherness.

This year’s fundraiser exemplifies the commitment of Mont. St. Joseph Home to not only meet the physical needs of its residents but also to nurture their emotional and spiritual well-being. “Care for the spirit and care for the soul… this is like no place I’ve ever seen in the entire provincial health system,” Nogier concluded.
