UPDATE: The Sooke Apple Festival has just celebrated its 16th anniversary, bringing together the community in Sooke, British Columbia, on September 21. This beloved event marks the harvest season, highlighting the sweet, crunchy fruit that locals cherish.

“This festival is all about celebrating the orchard we manage and bringing our community together,” stated Jessica Prieto, vice-president of Sooke Food CHI. The festival, which started in 2007, originated from the establishment of the Sunriver Orchard on Phillips Road, which now boasts over 55 apple trees alongside quince, pear, walnut trees, and even kiwis.

The festival offers more than just apples; it showcases a diverse array of local products and food vendors, making it a vital community hub. Attendees enjoyed tasting apples in various forms and engaging in activities tailored for children, including an Apple ID station.

This year’s festival also served as an important fundraiser, with admission by donation directly supporting the dedicated volunteers who sustain the orchard. Prieto emphasized that the success of the event is largely thanks to the commitment of eight passionate volunteers who keep the orchard thriving.

As the festival continues to grow, it remains a cherished tradition that strengthens local bonds and celebrates the harvest. For more details about Sooke Food CHI and upcoming events, visit sookefoodchi.ca.
