South Triumphs Over North in Thrilling U17 Lacrosse Showcase
BREAKING: Team South clinched a stunning 19-16 victory over Team North in the U17 Lacrosse Showcase held at Max Clunie Field in Prince Albert on Sunday. This intense matchup was part of the 2025 Field Lacrosse Provincials, taking place from September 24 to 26.
The showcase featured two games between U17 squads, providing young athletes an opportunity to display their skills. The game saw the North leading into the fourth quarter, but South rallied to secure the win, igniting cheers from local fans.
“We wanted to give the 17s a chance to showcase the game a little bit,” said North Attack coach Ryan Robin. With a smaller field and several players from Prince Albert on both teams, the event highlighted the challenges faced by U17 teams this season due to lower enrollment numbers.
Despite the challenges, the event successfully brought together 16 teams from across the province, including participants from Regina, Saskatoon, and Yorkton. The U15 Prince Albert Attack achieved a silver medal, while the U13 Attack took home bronze, showcasing the local talent.
The game was more than just a competition; it was a celebration of community and sport. “It’s nice to host the Provincials for the second straight year. It allows us to showcase our players to fans here in Prince Albert,” Robin noted, reflecting on the significance of the event.
In a twist during the game, Joe LaPrairie, the South coach, stepped in as a goalie for the North to address the team’s shortage, emphasizing the spirit of cooperation and camaraderie among the players and coaches.
The event kicked off on Saturday with a U9 Showcase and a U15 round-robin game, which took place under the lights, creating a memorable atmosphere for young athletes. “That was a great experience for those kids,” Robin added, highlighting the importance of such opportunities for youth in the sport.
As the season wraps up, the focus now shifts to how these talented young players will continue to develop and compete in future events. This showcase not only provided competitive play but also fostered friendships and sportsmanship among the athletes.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Field Lacrosse Provincials and upcoming events. The excitement continues as local teams prepare for the next season of competitive play.
