URGENT UPDATE: A serious crash on Yellowhead Trail has resulted in significant injuries and road closures. Police report that both speed and alcohol are being investigated as factors in the incident that unfolded on October 17, 2023, just after 10:00 PM.

According to Edmonton Police, officers attempted to stop a 2015 Jeep Cherokee for speeding near 50 Street. The vehicle, driven by a 39-year-old woman, fled the scene, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement. However, the police did not pursue the vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, the Jeep crashed, striking a curb before colliding with a barricade, which caused it to roll multiple times down the Yellowhead Trail. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded swiftly, transporting the driver to the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries. Two passengers in the vehicle also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The westbound lanes of Yellowhead Trail between 50 Street and 66 Street remained closed for several hours while investigators from the Major Collision Investigations Section examined the scene.

Officials confirm that this incident is still under investigation, with potential repercussions for those involved as more details emerge. The community is urged to stay informed as updates become available.
