St. Augustine’s Festival of Joy Welcomes Over 1,000 Attendees
URGENT UPDATE: The fourth annual Festival of Joy at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Brandon has just concluded, drawing over 1,000 attendees for a day filled with faith, food, and community spirit. Held on September 30, 2023, this vibrant event coincided with the Catholic Church’s Jubilee of Hope, making it a significant milestone for the parish.
Parish priest John Okosun emphasized the festival’s role in fostering positivity amid challenging times. “The Festival of Joy is an event that brings people together from all walks of life and all age groups,” Okosun stated. “It focuses on the positive, encouraging attendees to remember the good things happening in their lives.”
The festival, which launched in 2020, has seen consistent growth, with attendance jumping from 700 last year to over 1,000 this year. The event featured an array of activities, including exciting soccer tournaments for children and adults, races, games, and cultural displays, alongside engaging live praise and worship sessions.
Families enjoyed a diverse culinary experience, showcasing dishes from around the world. “Any type of food you are looking for is here,” Okosun noted, hinting at a potential lobster dish being served this year. The preparations began as early as May, with a dedicated planning committee coordinating logistics, entertainment, and promotion, ensuring a seamless event.
Okosun further highlighted the community impact, stating, “This festival has achieved something important—it has brought people together.” He encouraged attendees to celebrate locally rather than travel abroad, emphasizing the festival’s ability to create lasting memories and joy.
Admission to the Festival of Joy was free, with attendees winning prizes and children receiving vouchers and gifts. As the event wraps up, the church looks forward to next year’s festival, continuing the tradition of unity and celebration in the community.
Stay tuned for more updates and mark your calendars for next year’s Festival of Joy—a celebration that promises to uplift spirits and foster connections!
