UPDATE: The Saskatchewan 5A High School Volleyball Provincials are currently in full swing in Prince Albert, and the St. Mary Marauders have made headlines after a dramatic comeback on the tournament’s opening day.

After suffering a 2-0 loss to the formidable Aden Bowman Bears, the Marauders rebounded with an impressive win against LeBoldus, finishing the match in straight sets with scores of 25-19 and 25-22. The tournament, hosted by St. Mary, sees games taking place at both the school and Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

Marauders head coach Rene Quintal expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic home crowd, stating, “There’s a lot of support from family and friends. It definitely helped us out in the second set.” This local support contrasts sharply with their previous encounter against LeBoldus in Regina, where the Marauders faced a hostile audience.

Quintal acknowledged the strength of the Bears, commenting, “That’s one of the best high school volleyball teams I’ve seen in 23 years of coaching in Saskatchewan.” With a roster featuring seven Grade 10 players, the Marauders faced challenges but showed resilience in their match against LeBoldus, leveraging lessons learned from past encounters.

The Marauders are currently positioned in third place in Pool B with a record of 1-1, trailing Aden Bowman, who leads with a 3-0 record, and Estevan at 2-0. Walter Murray and LeBoldus are struggling at the bottom of the pool with records of 0-2 and 0-3 respectively.

Looking ahead, the Marauders are set to face Walter Murray at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2025, at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. Fans are eager to see if St. Mary can maintain their momentum and advance further in the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Carlton Crusaders opened their provincial run with a narrow 2-1 loss to Lloydminster (25-22, 22-25, 15-10) and followed up with a 2-0 defeat against Miller High School (25-15, 25-22). They were also in action against the Swift Current Colts, with results pending.

The Crusaders will conclude their Pool A play against Holy Cross from Saskatoon at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The finals are scheduled for 5:45 p.m. at the St. Mary gym, promising an exciting conclusion to a day filled with high-stakes action.

Stay tuned for further updates as the tournament progresses, with teams eager to claim the championship title and local pride on the line!
