Stampeders Surge in Second Half for 32-15 Victory Over Roughriders

UPDATE: The Calgary Stampeders delivered a stunning second-half performance, clinching a 32-15 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders at McMahon Stadium on August 23, 2025. This win keeps the Stampeders firmly in the race for the top spot in the CFL’s West Division following a halftime deficit.
The Stampeders, trailing by a single point at halftime, erupted for 18 unanswered points in the second half, showcasing a dominant defensive effort that completely shut down Saskatchewan. The electrifying atmosphere drew in 28,295 fans, with Calgary’s locker room buzzing post-game.
“It means a lot, but we didn’t win a Grey Cup today,”
stated Stampeders quarterback Vernon Adams Jr.. His team is now 7-3-0, significantly closing the gap on the 8-2-0 Roughriders, who suffered their second defeat to Calgary this season.
Calgary’s offense was sharp, with Adams tossing for 222 yards and three touchdowns, adding a two-point conversion while being intercepted twice. Key contributions came from receivers Jaylen Philpot, Daylen Baldwin, and Erik Brooks, each catching touchdown passes. Additionally, Dedrick Mills added a rushing touchdown and kicker Rene Paredes nailed a 53-yard field goal.
Despite the loss, Roughriders quarterback Trevor Harris threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns, though he faced significant pressure, being sacked four times. After the game, Harris expressed determination, saying,
“We’re pissed off. We’re not happy about this. It sucks. It hurts.”
The Stampeders’ defense was pivotal, neutralizing Saskatchewan’s run game and keeping Harris off balance. Calgary coach Dave Dickenson emphasized the importance of making Harris uncomfortable, a strategy that paid off in the second half.
After a disappointing run game showed only 16 rushing yards in their previous matchup, Saskatchewan improved significantly with 68 yards on the ground by halftime. However, Calgary’s defense adjusted, and the Roughriders struggled to find their rhythm in the second half.
Looking to the future, the Roughriders will host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on August 31, while the Stampeders prepare to face the Edmonton Elks on Labour Day Monday. The rivalry remains heated, with both teams likely to cross paths again in the playoffs.
This game not only showcased the fierce competition in the CFL but also highlighted the emotional stakes for both teams as they vie for playoff positioning. The Stampeders are now poised to build on their momentum, while the Roughriders will need to regroup quickly to maintain their lead in the division.
