Steinbach Christian School Expands Amid 60% Enrollment Surge

BREAKING: Steinbach Christian School (SCS) is making headlines as it announces a major expansion to accommodate a staggering 60% enrollment increase over the past three years. This urgent development highlights the school’s commitment to meeting the rising demand for Christian education in southeast Manitoba.
Effective immediately, SCS will fully occupy its campus previously shared with Steinbach Bible College, paving the way for significant growth. Renovations have already commenced, with plans to transform the college space into four new classrooms, an art room, and a media lab, all set to welcome students by fall 2026.
“We are listening to the community’s interest in Christian education and are committed to trusting God’s guidance as we grow in faith,” said principal Thor Barkman.
This expansion is just one of many initiatives launched by the school, which recently introduced a new bus route to facilitate access for rural students. This route provides daily pick-up and drop-off services for SCS students in Niverville and Blumenort, significantly easing logistical challenges for families.
“Access to Christian education is important,” Barkman added. “This bus route has helped many families with scheduling and made access easier.”
The bus route was a direct response to parental engagement, following information meetings held in Niverville last year. These discussions revealed strong interest in a potential SCS satellite school in the area. As of February 2025, the school has received 60 expressions of interest for a local educational facility, with an additional 20 families indicating interest in Christian education for their children as they reach school age.
“SCS continues to explore a Kindergarten to Grade Four school in Niverville,” stated Dylan Zacharias, SCS public relations officer. “We plan to meet with interested families in the coming months.”
For those interested in early education options, an expression of interest form is available on the school’s website. Currently, SCS needs only five to six more students to launch its early years program, and ten to fifteen more to establish a local Kindergarten program. Estimated annual tuition costs are $2,500 for Kindergarten students and $3,990 for Grades One through Four.
As the school community rallies around this exciting expansion, SCS remains committed to fostering a nurturing environment for its students. Stay tuned for more updates as the school continues to grow and adapt to the needs of its community.
