Sterling Volleyball Dominates Rock Island in Urgent Matchup
UPDATE: In a thrilling volleyball matchup Thursday, Sterling swept Rock Island with scores of 25-20 and 26-25, improving their record to 13-13 and 3-8 in the Western Big 6 Conference. This decisive win is crucial for the team as they look to gain momentum late in the season.
Alasia Harris-Rascon led the charge for Sterling with an impressive eight kills and seven digs, showcasing her skills in a must-win game. Teammate Nia Harris contributed significantly with seven kills, while Mya Lira added 10 digs to bolster the defense.
In addition to the standout performances, Madison Birdsley delivered a solid game with 12 assists, and Sydney Giffin supported with 10 assists. The team’s offense was further enhanced by Kasey Weeks, who recorded two aces and four kills.

Meanwhile, in other volleyball action, Fulton triumphed over Polo with a tight scoreline of 25-23, 20-25, 25-11. Averi Bush led the Steamers with 10 kills and four aces, contributing to a remarkable total of 20 aces for the team. Kerby Germann also stood out with seven aces, 14 digs, and two blocks.
In the NUIC South conference, Lena-Winslow defeated Eastland in a hard-fought match, final scores of 15-25, 28-26, 25-18. Trixie Caroll shone brightly for the Cougars, dominating with 22 kills, three blocks, and 17 digs.
In boys’ soccer, Harlem defeated Dixon with a score of 5-2. Nolan Valk and Jack Redell scored for the Dukes, who now hold an 8-8 record this season. Meanwhile, Oregon celebrated a strong victory over Faith Christian with a commanding 6-1 win, where Steven Guardado and Aidan Hammer each netted two goals.
In girls’ tennis, Dixon dominated Newman with a final score of 6-1, sweeping four doubles matches. Brooklyn Arjes led in singles, defeating Emmy Burger with a score of 6-2, 6-0.
