Stratford Filmmaker Invests in $1 Million Media Studio Project
BREAKING NEWS: A significant investment in Stratford, Ontario’s film and digital media scene has just been announced. Local filmmaker Craig Thompson, president of Ballinran Entertainment, revealed plans for a new professional media production facility called Stageview Studio. This ambitious project aims to transform the local entertainment landscape by creating a state-of-the-art production hub.
Thompson shared his vision for the site, which will encompass a 5,000 square foot sound stage along with essential production, editing, and storage spaces. “What is the next generation that is going to amplify the work that is already being done?” he asked, emphasizing that video production could be the next chapter for local artists. Construction is set to begin in 2024, with the facility expected to support both visiting filmmakers and local talent.
This initiative comes at a pivotal moment for Stratford, which has long been celebrated for its world-class stage performances. The new studio is anticipated to bolster the existing arts infrastructure not only in Stratford but across southwestern Ontario. “There’s going to be offices, production equipment, production facilities, and all sorts of other assets and resources that anyone can use for their production,” Thompson stated.
The project is already receiving strong backing from the local business and tourism sectors. Zac Gribble, executive director of Destination Stratford, remarked, “The idea of TV and film production, and the year-round facility here, is a real boon for Stratford’s creative community.” By converting an old warehouse on Downie Street into an entertainment hub, the facility aims to make southern Ontario more appealing to filmmakers.
Stratford has already attracted productions like Netflix’s Self-Made and In the Tall Grass thanks to its unique architecture and creative talent. “It is a great marriage between the talent and the people and the creatives that live here and the industry aspects of film and TV production,” Gribble added.
The facility will kick off operations by hosting Ballinran Entertainment’s streaming service, Stageview.TV, which aims to bring high-quality performance content to audiences year-round. This investment not only promises to expand the local economy but also provides crucial support to artists affected by the seasonal nature of Stratford’s theatre schedule.
As the details unfold, all eyes will be on Stratford as it prepares for this transformative change. The Stageview Studio project marks a bold step forward in the town’s commitment to diversifying its cultural offerings and enhancing its reputation as a creative hub in Canada.
