Sudbury Police Seize Loaded Handgun, Cocaine, $5,425 in Drug Bust
URGENT UPDATE: A major drug bust in Sudbury, Ontario, has led to the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a loaded handgun, cocaine, and over $5,000 in cash. The Greater Sudbury Police Service confirmed the arrests occurred during a traffic stop on Thursday, October 26, 2023, as part of an ongoing investigation into illicit drug trafficking.
Police officials reported that detectives halted a vehicle on Jean Street, where a 16-year-old youth from the Greater Toronto Area resisted arrest. Following a brief struggle, officers successfully apprehended the suspect. A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 3 grams of cocaine, a digital scale, and $5,425 in cash, alongside a loaded Glock 9mm handgun.
Both suspects face multiple charges. The teenager is implicated in over a dozen offenses, which include careless use of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and drug trafficking. Meanwhile, the 37-year-old man from Greater Sudbury is charged with six firearm offenses, including unsafe storage of a firearm and drug trafficking. Both individuals are currently in custody and are set to appear in bail court later today.
The Greater Sudbury Police Service emphasized its commitment to community safety, stating, “We remain dedicated to targeting drug trafficking and firearm-related offenses.” Authorities urge anyone with information on drug-related activities in Sudbury to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
