Officials reported that despite warnings against swimming, the allure of the waves drew surfers like Kate Lightstone to the shores. “This is part of our life,” she stated. “Everyone’s come out to watch the surf today, but we’re always tracking the conditions. Today’s just the day it looks the biggest.”

With lifeguards monitoring the situation closely, the excitement in the air was palpable. Surfer Austin O’Donnell was in the water by 7 a.m., riding waves for over four hours. “This is what we live for,” he exclaimed, highlighting the commitment of local surfers who have been eagerly awaiting this moment.

Photographers and wave-watchers joined in the excitement, with Rolend Hackert traveling two hours to Lawrencetown Beach to capture the spectacle. “Love the waves. Love the height. Love the fact that there are so many, and they’re just coming and coming,” he said.

Other surfers expressed similar enthusiasm. David Wilson, who arrived later in the day, remarked on the significance of the swell, stating, “It’s the first real swell in months. It’s looking pretty big—like head and a half at least, maybe some double overhead sets. So that’s big for here, for sure.”

As the conditions continue to develop, surfers and spectators are urged to exercise caution. “Know your limit. That’s like the best tip I can give you,” Lightstone advised, emphasizing the importance of safety during such intense surf conditions.
