Surrey Meals on Wheels Urgently Seeks Volunteers and Donations
URGENT UPDATE: The Surrey-North Delta Meals on Wheels urgently needs your help to continue delivering nutritious meals to vulnerable residents in Surrey and North Delta. After 55 years of service, this non-profit organization is calling on the community for immediate financial donations and volunteers to maintain its essential meal delivery program.
Since its inception, Meals on Wheels has provided “freshly made, ready-to-heat, nutritious meals” to individuals who are unable to prepare adequate meals for themselves due to age, illness, or disability. Currently, over 100 residents—including seniors, low-income individuals, and those recovering from surgery—depend on the service for their daily meals. With an increasingly aging population, the demand for this crucial service is expected to rise even further.
The organization serves various neighborhoods, including Whalley, Guildford, Newton, Fleetwood, Fraser Heights, Cloverdale, Cedar Hills, and Bridgeview. However, to sustain these operations, the charity needs more volunteers to deliver meals throughout the week. Volunteers must possess a Class 5 Canadian driver’s licence and are reimbursed 80 cents per kilometer for vehicle expenses.
According to an urgent statement on sdnmow.com, “We require that our volunteers have excellent interpersonal skills, are compassionate, and sensitive to the needs of seniors and those who are disabled or homebound.” Volunteers are expected to arrive for their shifts between 9:30 AM and 10:00 AM, completing deliveries typically by 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM.
In addition to volunteers, the organization is seeking financial support to continue operations. The rising cost of inflation has forced the charity to increase meal prices. As of September 1, 2025, an entree meal now costs $11.50, up by $1, and a bag lunch is priced at $6.50. This means clients who receive meals five days a week will see their weekly costs rise by $5.
The urgency for support is clear. Meals on Wheels is dedicated to keeping meal costs as low as possible, but without community contributions, the quality and availability of this vital service may be at risk.
To learn more about how you can assist, either by volunteering or donating, visit sdnmow.com immediately. Your help is crucial to ensuring that Surrey’s vulnerable populations continue to receive the nourishment they need. Don’t wait—take action now to support those in your community!
