Surrey’s Humuza Bazira Wins Canadian Dance Championship, Heads to Worlds
UPDATE: Surrey’s talented hip-hop dancer Humuza Bazira, known as Humuzza, has just clinched victory at the Canadian regional dance-off of the Red Bull Dance Your Style competition, propelling him to the world finals in Los Angeles this fall. The competition took place on September 5, 2023, at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, where Bazira dazzled the crowd and judges alike.
This exciting win marks Bazira as a two-time champion of the Canadian event, having previously represented Canada at the 2022 Red Bull world finals in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he placed fourth. His latest triumph comes from a fierce competition that featured 16 street dancers showcasing various styles.
“I had an amazing time competing in Vancouver,” Bazira shared shortly after the event. “Everything from the music to the audience made it a night I’ll never forget. My goal was to have fun and be myself unapologetically, and I’m happy to say I was able to do that, and even walked away with the win.”
As an ambassador for Dance Your Style, Bazira was granted direct access to nationals without having to go through qualifiers, allowing him to focus on his performance. He has expressed his excitement about competing in Los Angeles, stating, “The Worlds is in a really cool place, at the NBA Clippers arena, Intuit Dome, which is gonna be so fun.”
Bazira, 22, began his dance journey at Sullivan Heights Secondary and gained further recognition after appearing on Canada’s Got Talent in 2024. He has dedicated nearly eight years to dancing, which he describes as his life and profession. “I am full-time dancing all the time, 365 days a year,” he said, highlighting his commitment to both dance and acting.
With his sights set on the world stage, Bazira is eager to experience the energy of the upcoming event, stating, “I know the energy is gonna be amazing. I’m super excited to see how that will look.” His passion for dance has also led him to explore acting, featuring in shows like Fire Country and Tracker.
As the countdown to the world finals begins, fans are rallying behind Bazira, eager to support him as he represents Canada once again. The anticipation is palpable as he prepares for this prestigious global showdown. Keep an eye on this rising star as he takes the stage in Los Angeles this fall!
