Teacher Pleads Not Guilty in Stabbing Deaths of Arkansas Couple

UPDATE: A former teacher, Andrew James McGann, has just pleaded not guilty to two counts of capital murder in the brutal stabbing deaths of a married couple, Clinton David Brink (43) and Cristen Amanda Brink (41), while they were hiking at Devil’s Den State Park in Arkansas. The incident occurred last month, leaving the couple’s two young daughters, aged seven and nine, unharmed but traumatized.

During a brief arraignment that lasted around 30 minutes on Thursday, McGann, 28, exhibited little emotion. Authorities report that he was arrested earlier this month in a barbershop, just under 50 kilometers from the park, while in the middle of a haircut. Investigators tracked him down following leads from the suspect’s vehicle description, leading to his capture at Lupita’s Beauty Salon and Barber Shop in Springdale.

Maj. Stacie Rhoads of the Arkansas State Police revealed that McGann confessed to the stabbings shortly after his arrest, describing it as an “admission” of guilt. The attack reportedly began with Clinton Brink being stabbed approximately one kilometer into the park. Cristen Brink then ushered her daughters to safety before returning to assist her husband, only to be fatally stabbed herself.

“This is one of the most heinous crimes I’ve encountered in my 27 years with the state police,” Rhoads stated, referring to the random nature of the attack. The Brink family had recently relocated from South Dakota to a small city in northwest Arkansas, where Clinton was set to start a job as a milk delivery driver.

The Brink family issued a statement requesting privacy during this difficult time, declaring, “Clinton and Kristen died Hero’s (sic) protecting their little girls and they deserve justice. They will forever live on in all of our hearts.” Their tragic story has captivated national attention, prompting Washington County Prosecuting Attorney Brandon Carter to anticipate a gag order in the case.

As the legal proceedings unfold, McGann is being held without bond at the Washington County Detention Center. His next court date is scheduled for November 14, 2023, where further developments are expected.
