Theatre Teacher Makes Triumphant Return in Urgent One-Person Show
UPDATE: Theatre in the Country is set to captivate audiences with the return of a beloved theatre teacher in a one-person show, Shirley Valentine, running for just four performances from August 21 to 23 in Langley. This engaging production promises to inspire and entertain as it explores the journey of a woman rediscovering her passion for life.
Directed by Sarah Wiget, this extraordinary play follows the life of Shirley, a middle-aged housewife from Liverpool who feels trapped in her mundane routine. In a poignant yet humorous narrative, Shirley confronts her dreams that have long been sidelined, leading to an empowering transformation. “She finds herself talking to the wall while preparing her husband’s ‘egg ‘n’ chips,’ pondering what happened to her life,” explains Reg Parks, artistic director of Theatre in the Country. “Her longing for adventure sparks a journey she never expected.”
Starring in the titular role is Kate Muchmore Woo, a seasoned performer and former head of the theatre department at Trinity Western University (TWU). This performance marks her return to the stage after a 10-year hiatus, having focused on teaching and nurturing new talent. Parks commends her extensive experience, stating, “Her unique perspective on this richly layered role will resonate with audiences, offering laughter and touching moments that inspire.”
The play runs for three nights at 7:30 p.m. and features a 1:30 p.m. matinee on Saturday, making it a must-see event for theatre lovers. “Expect an evening filled with hilarity, heartwarming encounters, and motivation to pursue your dreams,” Parks adds excitedly.
