URGENT UPDATE: A Toronto driver has been arrested following the tragic death of a 24-year-old pedestrian in Scarborough. Authorities confirm that the incident occurred on September 5, 2023, at approximately 5 p.m., when the victim was struck while crossing Midland Avenue at Steeles Avenue East.

Witnesses reported that the driver, operating a 2014 Subaru Forrester, made a left turn when he collided with the young woman, who was safely using the crosswalk. Paramedics rushed to the scene, but despite their life-saving efforts, the woman was sadly pronounced dead shortly after the accident.

Toronto police have identified the driver as Yuan-Ming Li, a 59-year-old resident of Toronto. He faces serious charges including dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death and careless driving causing death. Li was apprehended at the scene and is scheduled to appear in a Toronto bail court on Wednesday morning.
