Toronto Police Arrest 14-Year-Old for Fatal Stabbing of Senior
Toronto police have arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 71-year-old woman, identified as Shahnaz Pestonji. The incident occurred on March 15, 2024, while Pestonji was loading groceries into her vehicle at a parking lot in north Toronto. Following a comprehensive search lasting three days, the teenager now faces a charge of second-degree murder.
Pestonji was discovered with multiple stab wounds and was subsequently pronounced dead at a local hospital. The tragic event shocked the community, prompting an outpouring of grief and support for the victim’s family. Images shared by the Pestonji family reveal joyful moments spent together, illustrating the deep loss felt by those who knew her.
During the pursuit of the suspect, the Toronto Police Service employed various resources, including canine units, drones, and door-to-door canvassing. They also reviewed extensive surveillance footage in a bid to locate the teenager. Authorities initially received authorization to release the suspect’s name and image; however, that authorization has since expired, and the suspect’s identity is now protected.
The 14-year-old is scheduled to appear in court on March 18, 2024. As the investigation continues, police urge anyone with additional information to come forward.
This incident underscores the growing concern regarding violence in urban areas and its impact on community safety. Local leaders are calling for discussions on measures to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
