Toronto Rally Set to Draw Over 200,000, Major Traffic Disruptions Ahead
UPDATE: Toronto police are issuing an urgent warning as a massive rally is set to take place in the city’s north end on February 14. Authorities anticipate attendance could exceed 200,000 people, leading to significant traffic disruptions throughout the day.
The rally is part of the Global Day of Action supporting Iran’s Lion and Sun Revolution. It will feature a 3.8-kilometre march beginning at Yonge Street and Steeles Avenue, proceeding south to Yonge Street and North York Boulevard, just north of Sheppard Avenue. Police emphasize that anyone in the area should plan ahead, as extreme traffic delays are expected.
In preparation for the anticipated crowds, police have implemented several road closures and parking restrictions. The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has also announced adjustments, with Bus 97 on detour. Authorities recommend using Sheppard Station as the safest point for subway access, but warn that due to the expected foot traffic, access to North York Centre Station will be limited and monitored for safety.
Police confirm that severe traffic and transit delays are likely between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday. They urge travelers to avoid the area entirely to mitigate congestion. “Alternate routes should be prioritized to ensure timely arrival at your destination,” a police spokesperson stated.
As the rally approaches, both local residents and commuters are feeling the impact. The sheer number of participants is expected to create an overwhelming atmosphere, with heightened emotions as demonstrators gather to voice their support for a cause that resonates deeply within communities.
Officials are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to implement staggered station closures as necessary to manage crowd levels and maintain safety on subway platforms. Local authorities advise that all travelers should stay informed about the evolving situation and adjust their travel plans accordingly.
As this developing story unfolds, stay tuned for further updates on the rally and its impact on Toronto’s transportation network.
