Trump TERMINATES Trade Talks with Canada Over Anti-Tariff Ad

UPDATE: Former President Donald Trump has just announced the termination of all trade negotiations with Canada, citing an anti-tariff advertisement run by the Ford government as the primary reason. The ad, featuring a historical radio address by former President Ronald Reagan, warns about the dangers of tariffs, claiming they lead to economic collapse and job losses.

In a late-night post on his Truth Social platform, Trump expressed outrage over the ad, which uses Reagan’s voice from a 1987 address: “High tariffs inevitably lead to retaliation by foreign countries and the triggering of fierce trade wars,” he wrote. He labeled the advertisement as “FAKE” and accused Canada of fraudulently using Reagan’s image to influence U.S. legal decisions.

“TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED,” Trump declared.

The Ford government has allocated a staggering $75 million for this advertising campaign, which began airing earlier this month across major U.S. networks, including Newsmax, Bloomberg, FOX, NBC, CBS, and CNBC. The ads are set to run until the end of January 2026.

This abrupt end to trade negotiations marks a significant escalation in tensions between the United States and Canada, underscoring the fragility of economic relations in the face of political posturing. The termination of talks could have far-reaching implications for various industries reliant on cross-border trade.

As the situation unfolds, analysts are closely monitoring the potential impacts on both countries’ economies. Trump’s strong stance may lead to retaliatory actions from Canada, further complicating an already strained relationship.

Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops. The ramifications of Trump’s decision are likely to resonate beyond trade, affecting diplomatic relations and economic strategies in both nations.
