UFC Set to Host Historic Fight Event at White House July 4, 2024
UPDATE: The UFC is gearing up for a groundbreaking event at the White House on July 4, 2024, coinciding with the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. UFC President Dana White confirmed this historic announcement, emphasizing the significance of hosting a fight at such a prestigious venue.
In an exclusive interview with CBS Mornings, White stated, “It is definitely going to happen,” solidifying plans that trace back to his close relationship with President Donald Trump, which began in the early 2000s. The president has expressed enthusiasm for the event, mentioning a potential audience of up to 25,000 people on the White House grounds.
White revealed that he will meet with President Trump and his daughter Ivanka Trump later this month to finalize the details. The White House has officially confirmed the event, marking the first UFC competition ever held at this iconic location.
Though the exact location within the White House remains uncertain, UFC events typically require large arenas and feature their signature eight-sided octagon cage. “When he called me and asked me to do it, he said: ‘I want Ivanka in the middle of this,’” White noted, highlighting Ivanka’s involvement in discussions about the event’s logistics.
Trump teased the fight concept during a recent event in Iowa, suggesting the construction of a cage on the White House lawn, stating, “We have a lot of land there.” His remarks during the July 4 Salute to America event indicated that this fight would kick off a year of celebrations leading up to the nation’s milestone birthday.
The UFC fight represents a bold move by Trump to imprint his legacy on the White House, following his extensive renovations to the complex, including redecorating the Oval Office and planning a $200 million new ballroom in the East Wing.
This announcement comes on the heels of a significant partnership between Paramount, which owns CBS, and the UFC, with a seven-year, $7.7 billion deal to stream UFC fights. The administration’s recent approval of a controversial merger between Skydance and Paramount has drawn attention, with commitments made to the administration as part of the deal.
As the planning progresses, the anticipation builds for what could be a historic moment in both sports and political history. Keep an eye on further updates as details unfold leading up to this unprecedented event at the White House.
