University of Lethbridge Launches New Branding and Logo Today
BREAKING: The University of Lethbridge (U of L) has just unveiled its new branding identity and logo, a significant step forward that pays homage to its rich history. This announcement coincided with the first day of classes on September 4, 2023, making it a momentous occasion for students and faculty alike.
The event, held on campus in Lethbridge, Alberta, featured several speakers, including Michelle Helstein, Provost and Vice-President of Academics. Helstein emphasized the logo’s evolutionary design, which incorporates familiar elements like the sun and the motto “Fiat Lux,” translating to “Let there be light.”
“What you really do see is an emphasis on the sun – that’s part of our history, part of the community,” said Helstein. The sun symbolizes the university’s origins and its ongoing commitment to education, research, and community engagement.
The new branding also honors the U of L’s dedication to Indigenous communities, featuring four keystone poles that form the foundation of a tipi. This design represents stability, support, and collective strength, with a central opening that looks towards the sky, signifying aspiration and the spirit of shared learning.
The university’s colors, blue and gold, reflect the pride of the U of L Pronghorns and the determination of its student-athletes. Helstein remarked, “The thing I’m most excited about is that it really does, I think, speak to students and what we do for students.”
The rebranding process has been underway for approximately one year, involving widespread consultations with over 1,000 stakeholders, including students, faculty, alumni, and community members. This collaborative approach has led to the creation of a new narrative for the U of L, one rooted in a deep sense of connectedness and community involvement.
The unveiling of the new logo and branding is not just a visual change; it represents the university’s vision for the future and its commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
As the University of Lethbridge embarks on this new chapter, the community is excited about the potential for growth and transformation. Stay tuned for more updates as the U of L continues to evolve and inspire the next generation of leaders.
