UPDATE: A shocking incident occurred in Princeton, B.C., where a 26-year-old man had his mother’s Lamborghini Gallardo impounded after being clocked at an astonishing 130 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The B.C. Highway Patrol reported the excessive speeding occurred back in June 2023.

Officers confirmed that the young North Vancouver resident was speeding while claiming he was on his way to a racetrack. “Had he driven more responsibly, he could have had a great day at the track. Instead, he had an awkward conversation with mom,” stated Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.

The consequences were swift and severe. Under B.C. law, driving over 40 km/h above the speed limit results in an automatic vehicle impoundment. The Lamborghini was taken for a period of seven days, leaving the driver to face a hefty list of penalties.

In total, the man received fines for excessive speeding and for driving without a front license plate. He was also charged for a rural tow alongside the cost of the impoundment, adding up to an estimated financial blow of over $2,500. This incident will undoubtedly impact his insurance premiums, which are projected to rise over the next three years.

“Our first priority is to keep you and all road users safe,” McLaughlin emphasized. “If that is not enough to slow you down, you may wish to consider whether you’re willing to light thousands of dollars of your own money on fire.”

This incident serves as a critical reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the substantial financial consequences that accompany it. As authorities focus on road safety, drivers are urged to adhere strictly to speed limits and regulations to avoid similar fates.

What’s next? The young driver will now face the repercussions of his actions, including the impact on his insurance and driving record, which will likely haunt him for years to come. Stay tuned as more details emerge from the B.C. Highway Patrol and the ongoing discussions about road safety in the province.
