Urgent Call for Indigenous Artists at Neepawa Health Centre
UPDATE: Prairie Mountain Health has just announced an urgent call for Indigenous artists to create a significant art installation at the new Neepawa Health Centre. This initiative invites artists to submit proposals by October 15, 2025, for an artwork that embodies health, healing, and cultural connection.
The selected artist will receive an honorarium of $1,200 and have their work digitized for display in the Cultural Ceremonies room of the health centre. Spanning approximately 12 feet by 6 feet, this installation will serve as a prominent symbol within the facility, emphasizing the importance of cultural safety and reconciliation.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to honouring Indigenous ways of knowing and healing,” Prairie Mountain Health stated. The focus is on artists who can weave Indigenous symbolism and community themes into their designs, exploring concepts such as Two-Eyed Seeing, the Seven Sacred Teachings (Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility, Truth), and the Medicine Wheel, which represents balance and holistic well-being.
Artists who self-identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis are encouraged to apply, with preference given to those connected to the Prairie Mountain Health region. A panel comprising Indigenous community partners and Prairie Mountain Health staff will review submissions, ensuring fairness by withholding artist identities during the selection process. Each artist can submit up to two original works for consideration.
The chosen artwork may also feature in promotional materials, enhancing visibility for Indigenous creativity in a space dedicated to healing and connection. Interested artists are urged to submit their applications, including artwork samples, to [email protected] by the deadline.
Organizers are enthusiastic about celebrating Indigenous creativity and its integral role in the new health facility. This is a crucial opportunity for artists to contribute meaningfully to a project that promotes cultural understanding and healing in the community.
For those needing assistance or wishing to submit in person, Prairie Mountain Health is ready to help. Don’t miss the chance to showcase your talent in a project that honors Indigenous heritage and promotes well-being!
