URGENT UPDATE: A tragic collision in Cowansville, located in the Eastern Townships, has left one woman dead and several others in critical condition. The devastating accident occurred around 1:45 p.m. on August 4, 2025, on de la Rivière Street, also known as Route 104, near Wellington Street.

According to Sgt. Frédéric Deshaies, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), initial reports indicate that a vehicle traveling eastbound struck the rear of another vehicle. This collision caused the second vehicle to veer into oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on collision with a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

Four individuals were in the first vehicle, all of whom were transported to the hospital. The 19-year-old driver sustained serious injuries and is currently in critical condition. In the second vehicle, one person was seriously injured, and tragically, a woman in her 70s was killed in the incident. The sole occupant of the last vehicle involved is receiving treatment for minor injuries.

Authorities are on the scene investigating the circumstances surrounding this horrific event. A reconstructionist and collision investigator have been dispatched to gather crucial evidence and determine the factors leading to the crash.
