Urgent Evacuation Alert Issued for Wesley Ridge Wildfire Area

URGENT UPDATE: A new evacuation alert has been issued for areas surrounding the Wesley Ridge Wildfire on Vancouver Island, announced by the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) late on August 4, 2023. This alert is a crucial step to ensure the safety and welfare of residents as the wildfire poses increasing threats.
The RDN’s press release highlights several newly impacted areas. They include residential properties along Lakeview Road (from 2700 to 2740), Marshland Road (from 2700 to 2800), and Spider Lake Road (from 1240 to 1260). Residents in these locations must stay vigilant and prepare for potential evacuation.
Additionally, a number of properties remain under the evacuation alert. These include areas on Alberni Highway (from 3959 to 4138), Ashling Road (from 1650 to 1740), and various other roads such as Corcan Road, Galvin Place, and Wildflower Place. Residents are urged to stay informed as conditions may change rapidly.
“This evacuation alert is issued to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should an evacuation order be made,” the RDN stated. Residents will receive as much advance notice as possible, but limited notice may be given due to the rapidly changing situation.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO NOW:
– Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside the Evacuation Alert zone.
– Pack essential items including government-issued ID, medications, and important documents.
– Prepare to assist neighbors and vulnerable individuals in evacuating.
– Ensure personal vehicles are fueled and ready for immediate use.
– Make arrangements for pets and livestock.
– Review your insurance policy for coverage during evacuations.
– Arrange accommodations with family or friends, as hotel availability may be limited.
– If you need assistance, register with Emergency Support Services (ESS) at ess.gov.bc.ca.
– Wait for an official Evacuation Order before leaving, as early evacuation may affect your eligibility for support services.
– Sign up for Voyent Alert! to receive timely notifications about evacuation orders.
For the latest updates on orders, alerts, and wildfire information, residents are encouraged to visit the Regional District of Nanaimo Facebook page or their website at rdn.bc.ca/currentalerts. Stay safe and vigilant as this situation continues to develop.
