Urgent Fire Engulfs Mobile Home Near Duncan, Residents Evacuated

UPDATE: A devastating fire erupted at a mobile home in Allenby Road Mobile Home Park just south of Duncan on October 6, 2023. The blaze, which ignited around noon, quickly consumed Unit 23, threatening nearby residences as firefighters rushed to the scene.

Flames soared high into the sky, visible from a distance, as the Duncan Volunteer Fire Department worked tirelessly to contain the inferno. Multiple units, including police and North Cowichan’s South End fire crews, were dispatched, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Black smoke billowed, alarming residents in the small community.

“I heard somebody yelling, ‘You better get out! You better get out!’” said resident Cathy Gibson, who has lived in the park for over 20 years. Gibson expressed her shock, stating, “I’ve never seen anything like it.” Her primary concern was for her neighbors, particularly for those living on the other side of the burning unit.

Fortunately, the occupants of Unit 23, a man and woman, managed to escape safely and are currently receiving assistance from first responders. The cause of the fire remains unknown as police and fire officials launch an investigation into the incident.

Residents gathered outside, anxiously watching the firefighters battle the flames. The situation remains critical, with authorities working to ensure the safety of all individuals in the area.
