Urgent: Girl Falls from Yaletown Balcony; Family Faces Unimaginable Loss
UPDATE: A devastating incident in Yaletown has left a family shattered after an eight-year-old girl tragically fell from a 23rd-floor balcony on November 11, 2023. The girl, who was with her father at the time, has died, and her mother, Mahsa, is grappling with an “unimaginable” loss while preparing to welcome a new baby in January.
Family spokesperson Geoff Stollery confirmed that Mahsa, who lives with her partner Jorge in Squamish, is well-known in her community and is receiving support during this heart-wrenching time. “There’s still, I think, a real sense of shock and disbelief,” Stollery stated. “And immense grief as to what’s happened.”
To assist Mahsa and Jorge, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover immediate expenses as they navigate this tragedy. “The fundraising has been set up to assist with immediate expenses; the final expenses are significant,” Stollery explained. He emphasized that Mahsa had already been on medical leave before this incident, and now her partner has also stepped away from work, adding to their financial burden.
Stollery described the little girl as “amazing” and underscored the importance of keeping her memory alive amidst the tragedy. “We want to put a personal component to this story as opposed to just the tragic incident that took place,” he added. The family is now focused on grieving and rebuilding their lives in the face of profound loss.
The girl’s funeral is set to take place on Wednesday, marking a somber moment for the community and loved ones alike. During this difficult time, Stollery reiterated the need for support, stating, “There are some very difficult days ahead, of course. We will make sure Mahsa and Jorge have all the support that we can give them.”
As the community rallies around this grieving family, the urgent need for financial and emotional support is clear. The GoFundMe campaign has already begun to gather contributions, reflecting the compassion and solidarity of those touched by this tragic incident.
This ongoing situation highlights the fragility of life and the profound impact of sudden loss, urging readers to consider supporting the family during this critical time.
