Urgent: Major Roadwork in Niagara Causes 46 Highway Closures

UPDATE: Major roadwork is set to disrupt traffic across Niagara, with 46 highway closures scheduled for September 10, 2025. Motorists are urged to prepare for significant delays, especially during peak travel times.

The Queen Elizabeth Way will see multiple lane closures, including the Fort Erie bound on-ramp at Ontario Street in Grimsby, where one right lane will be closed starting from September 7 at 9 p.m. until September 13 at 5 a.m. Additionally, the off-ramp at Bertie Street in Fort Erie will have alternating lane closures from August 20 at 7 a.m. until December 5 at 5 p.m.

Traffic flow will be further impacted on Highway 406, where one alternating lane will be closed on the northbound stretch between the Queen Elizabeth Way and Queen Elizabeth Way in St. Catharines from September 7 at 8 p.m. until September 13 at 6 a.m..

Motorists should also note that the Toronto bound lanes of Queen Elizabeth Way will be affected between Victoria Avenue and Christie Street, where two right lanes will be closed from September 10 at 8 p.m. until September 11 at 6 a.m..

As roadwork progresses, the following closures are also in effect:
– All lanes on Highway 58A eastbound between Queen Elizabeth Way and Stanley Ave will be closed from September 8 at 9 p.m. until September 10 at 7 a.m..
– Alternating lane closures on Highway 58 northbound off-ramp at Pine Street in Thorold from September 10 at 9 a.m. until September 10 at 3 p.m..
– Significant closures on East Main Street in Welland, with one left lane closed from September 8 at 9 a.m. until September 12 at 3 p.m..

The ongoing construction is part of a larger initiative to improve road safety and infrastructure in the region. However, the timing coincides with high travel volumes, particularly as local events draw visitors to the area.
