BREAKING: Schools in Coquitlam, B.C. are on high alert after a series of threats led to multiple lockdowns this week. A mother received a distressing text from her 16-year-old daughter on February 5, revealing that students at Centennial Secondary were forced to sit on the floor with their room window covered due to a police lockdown.

The situation escalated as Mounties reported receiving two additional threats on Thursday, just a day after eight schools in Coquitlam and nearby Port Coquitlam were placed on a police hold and secure. RCMP Insp. Todd Balaban stated that investigators are working “tirelessly” to gather evidence, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

Sharon Perry, the concerned mother, described her feelings of helplessness as she read her daughter’s alarming messages about barricading the classroom and hiding under desks. “It’s beyond scary for our family,” Perry said, expressing her frustration over the lack of clear communication from the school district.

Authorities confirmed that rumors circulating on social media are hindering the investigation, as they urge the public to refrain from spreading unverified information. The school district has directed media inquiries to the Coquitlam RCMP, stating they have “nothing more to share” at this time.

In a related incident, police in Port Moody are investigating a similar threat at an elementary school that briefly went into lockdown. Balaban noted that investigators believe there is a connection between the threats in Coquitlam and Port Moody.

As parents and students navigate this unsettling environment, the community remains on edge, awaiting further updates from law enforcement. The situation is developing rapidly, and officials are emphasizing the importance of vigilance and accurate information.
