BREAKING: A notorious speed camera on Parkside Drive in Toronto has been cut down for the seventh time in less than a year, raising urgent concerns about ongoing vandalism. The incident occurred overnight, with Toronto police confirming they are investigating this latest attack.

This particular speed camera has become one of the city’s most profitable, issuing over 69,000 tickets and generating more than $7 million in fines since its installation. It was first installed following a tragic accident on October 12, 2021, which claimed the lives of two seniors at the intersection of Parkside Drive and Spring Road.

The relentless targeting of this camera has left authorities and locals frustrated. Surveillance footage recently surfaced showing a shadowy figure using a step ladder and a Sawzall to cut down the camera earlier this year. The video, captured by a nearby trail camera set up by a concerned citizen, has put a spotlight on the brazen nature of these acts.

Since its first vandalism incident in November, when it was cut down twice within days of each other, the speed camera has faced repeated attacks. Notably, in December, it was even tossed into a nearby duck pond, demonstrating the lengths to which vandals will go to disable this important traffic enforcement tool.

The most recent attack in July occurred despite the installation of a new surveillance camera nearby, indicating that the perpetrators are undeterred by increased monitoring.

This ongoing saga raises significant concerns about public safety, especially given the camera’s role in deterring speeding and potential accidents. The city is now faced with the challenge of protecting this crucial piece of infrastructure amidst a wave of vandalism.

As the investigation unfolds, community members are urged to report any suspicious activity around speed enforcement devices. Authorities are hopeful that heightened awareness and vigilance can help curb the attacks on this vital traffic control measure.

The situation remains developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Stay tuned for the latest developments on this urgent matter.
