Urgent Pasture Walk at Brass Family Farm on Oct. 18—Register Now!
UPDATE: A unique opportunity to explore grass-fed beef practices is happening on Saturday, October 18 at Brass Family Farm in Stillman Valley. The farm, owned by Stephen and Andria Brass, will host its annual Pasture Walk from 2 to 3:30 p.m. This event is crucial for anyone interested in understanding the health benefits of grass-fed beef and the sustainable farming practices used by the Brass family.
The Brasses are committed to educating the community on why grass-fed beef is not only better for cows but also for consumers. They raise 150 head of grass-fed Red Devon cattle on their centennial farm, promoting environmentally friendly methods that enhance the quality of their meat. Attendees will learn about the unique grazing techniques employed through temporary electric fencing, which allows the cows to graze on diverse pastures, enriching both the soil and the animals.
This year marks the third iteration of the Pasture Walk, designed to bridge the gap between consumers and the origins of their food.
“They want to see where their beef is coming from and how it’s raised. Without them coming here, there’s a disconnect in their mind,”
Stephen Brass stated. The couple started this initiative to satisfy the curiosity of their customers who purchase meat online from brassfamilyfarm.com.
The Brass family transitioned from traditional grain farming to raising cattle in 2010, motivated by a desire to avoid chemicals and promote organic practices. The farm, also known as Walnut Grove Farm, spans 80 acres of pastureland where about 25 different plant species thrive.
Stephen emphasizes the nutritional awareness of cows, noting,
“A cow is in tune with what they need nutritionally.”
Their innovative mineral serving system allows cows to self-supplement if they are lacking essential nutrients from their grass.
Interested participants must preregister by Tuesday, October 14. The registration fee is $10 per person or $30 for families. Complimentary refreshments will be available during the event. To register, visit brassfamilyfarm.com/products and click on the Pasture Walk icon for more details.
Don’t miss this chance to connect with local agriculture and gain insights into sustainable beef farming practices. The Pasture Walk at Brass Family Farm is a vital event for community members and food enthusiasts alike, encouraging transparency in food sourcing and promoting healthier choices.
