Urgent: Pickup Crashes, Damages Multiple Vehicles in Nanaimo
UPDATE: A chaotic scene unfolded in Nanaimo this afternoon as a pickup truck lost control, damaging multiple vehicles on Third Street. The crash occurred around 1 p.m. between Watfield and Wakesiah Avenues, sending the driver and passenger of the pickup to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Ret. Const. Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP, the incident began when a full-sized white pickup truck was traveling westbound on Third Street. Witnesses reported that the driver suddenly lost control, veering into numerous parked vehicles. The pickup then crossed the median, striking even more cars before finally coming to a stop after colliding with additional parked vehicles near the intersection of Wakesiah Avenue.
Emergency services, including police, fire, and BC Emergency Health Services, rushed to the scene to assist. As authorities worked to clear the wreckage, Third Street remained closed, causing significant traffic delays in the area.
The aftermath of the crash left several vehicles damaged or destroyed, creating a debris field that required tow trucks for clean-up.
“This incident highlights the importance of safe driving in residential areas,” O’Brien emphasized. “We’re thankful that the injuries were not life-threatening.”
Motorists are advised to avoid the area as cleanup efforts continue. Officials urge residents to stay updated on road conditions and to expect delays.
This developing story will be updated as more information becomes available. Stay tuned for further updates on injuries and potential charges related to this incident.
