URGENT UPDATE: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has just announced a significant recall of various pistachio nuts across multiple stores in Vancouver due to potential salmonella contamination. This urgent recall impacts Persian-style pistachios with saffron sold at Lena Market on 4th Avenue and Aria Market on Bidwell Street.

Additionally, Kowsar Holding is recalling lime and saffron in-shell pistachios, along with lime saffron roasted pistachios from two Shiraz Farm Markets located on Clarke Road and Nicola Avenue in Coquitlam. The affected brands include Pegah and Vicinity Mart.

Consumers who purchased these pistachio products are strongly advised to dispose of them or return them to the point of sale. The agency emphasizes that salmonella can cause serious health issues, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

“Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but can still make you sick,” warned the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms like fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Long-term complications can include severe arthritis.

The recall comes amid rising concerns about food safety, particularly with the busy holiday season approaching. If you believe you have fallen ill after consuming these nuts, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Stay tuned for further updates as this situation develops. Your health and safety are paramount.
