UPDATE: In a major operation, B.C.’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU-BC) has just announced significant drug seizures and multiple arrests on Vancouver Island. During a focused four-day deployment from January 29 to February 1, 2023, authorities disrupted organized crime networks, seizing approximately 1 kilogram of suspected drugs, including fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine.

The coordinated efforts involved the CFSEU-BC working alongside the Westshore RCMP, Saanich, and Victoria Police Departments. The operation led to the arrests of seven individuals and the initiation of 27 investigations targeting gang-related activities. This proactive approach is designed to tackle organized crime before it escalates into violence, aiming to reduce the availability of dangerous substances in local communities.

Police seized about $14,500 in cash, along with bear spray and a knife, indicating the serious nature of the operations being conducted. “These proactive deployments are intended to disrupt organized crime activity before violence occurs and to reduce the availability of dangerous drugs in our communities,” stated the CFSEU-BC in a Friday news release.

The latest developments underscore the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combatting drug trafficking and gang violence. This strategic operation not only aims to dismantle existing networks but also serves as a warning to potential offenders that authorities are actively monitoring and responding to criminal activities in the region.

As law enforcement continues to ramp up efforts against organized crime, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The CFSEU-BC has confirmed that further actions will follow as investigations progress, and community safety remains a top priority.
