UPDATE: Metro Vancouver is bracing for severe weather as Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has reissued a significant rainfall and snowfall warning this morning. Residents can expect up to 50 mm of rain and potentially 5 cm of wet snow, primarily affecting the North Shore and northeast areas.

The warning was announced at 5 a.m. today, with heavy rain already developing across the North Shore and anticipated to spread throughout Metro Vancouver this morning. This persistent wet weather is attributed to a frontal system crossing the south coast, which is expected to lower snow levels in higher terrain.

ECCC warns that conditions will worsen throughout the day. The rainfall warning encompasses key locations, including the City of Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and regions such as Coquitlam and Maple Ridge. Residents should prepare for challenging travel conditions due to water pooling on roads in low-lying areas.

In addition to rain, snowfall is a significant concern for higher elevations. ECCC predicts that recreational zones in the North Shore mountains will experience substantial snowfall, with more wet snow expected late this morning and again on Wednesday. Drivers should exercise caution and prepare for winter driving conditions, as travel delays are likely.

As the storm progresses, winds are expected to pick up tonight, with gusts reaching 50 km/h near the Strait of Georgia. However, these winds should subside by noon tomorrow.

ECCC emphasizes a high confidence in its forecast, urging residents to remain updated on the evolving weather conditions. With no signs of relief in sight, Vancouver is set to endure more rain in the coming days.

Stay tuned for further updates as the weather unfolds, and be sure to share this urgent information with friends and family to keep everyone informed.
