Urgent Rainfall Warning: Halifax Faces Halloween Storm Threat

UPDATE: A significant rainfall warning has just been issued for the Halifax area, raising concerns for Halloween festivities. Meteorologists predict a storm system arriving on October 31, 2023, bringing with it 30 to 50 mm of rain and gusty winds reaching 70 km/h.

The warning spans the Atlantic coastline from Yarmouth through Halifax to Ecum Secum. Rain is forecast to begin early Friday morning, with heavy downpours expected throughout the day. However, there is a glimmer of hope for trick-or-treaters as conditions may improve by evening.

CityNews weather specialist Allister Aalders provided insights on the evolving situation, stating, “The worst of the weather tapers off to a lingering chance of a shower late afternoon or early evening so it could be dry for any Halloween plans on Friday evening.” This means families might still have a chance to enjoy traditional Halloween activities, though they should remain cautious.

Authorities are urging residents to prepare for the storm by clearing storm drains and gutters of leaves and debris to mitigate flooding risks. Additionally, Environment Canada advises securing outdoor items, including Halloween decorations and garbage bins, to prevent damage from strong winds.

As the storm approaches, residents in the northeastern mainland and Cape Breton should expect rain and wind to persist into the evening hours.

Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops. Check local forecasts and prepare for potentially hazardous conditions.
