URGENT UPDATE: The west boat launch at Conestogo Lake will be out of service starting this Saturday, August 23, as the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) prepares for critical repairs to the Conestogo Dam. This project aims to address damage caused by weather and ice events over the years, requiring a gradual drawdown of reservoir water levels.

Boaters and cottagers are urged to act quickly, as the west launch will remain closed for the rest of the season. Fortunately, the east boat launch, which is longer and accommodates more traffic, will stay operational until Labour Day, September 1. It will close the following day, September 2, as water levels continue to drop.

The GRCA warns that weather conditions or downstream flow requirements may affect the drawdown schedule. “Should there be any changes to the schedule, the project webpage will be updated and notifications will be sent,” officials stated.

In addition, one lane of Wellington Road 11 will be closed to facilitate the repairs, impacting local traffic. Cottage owners around Conestogo Lake are advised to monitor their properties during the project, which is essential for maintaining flood storage and flow management functions.

These developments are significant for the local community, with many relying on the lake for recreational activities and property maintenance. Immediate planning is advised to ensure safe and timely boat removal before the upcoming closures. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation develops.
